How Sharp Is Your Axe?

Here's a powerful story.   How do you think it applies to our business?
Picture
Once upon a time there were two men in a wood-chopping contest.  They were tasked with chopping down as many trees in the forest as they could from sun-up to sun-down.  The winner would be rewarded with both fame and fortune.

From morning till noon, both men steadily chopped and chopped.  By noon they were neck and neck, but then one man took a break and stopped chopping.  The other man saw this and thought to himself: “The lazy fool, he’s probably taken a break for lunch. He’s given me a chance to get ahead of him and I will without doubt win this contest!”

A while later the man got back to work. As the day continued he chopped more trees than his hard-working (and hungry) competitor and by mid-afternoon he had taken a clear lead.

When sundown came, the man who had taken the break at noon had chopped almost twice as many trees as the other man, who was drenched in sweat, hungry and exhausted.
“How did you beat me?” he asked puzzled. “You were lazier than I and even took a break for lunch!”
“Ah,” said the other man, “I did take a break, but it was during that break, that I sharpened my axe.”

Sometimes people miss Team ELITE TV because they say they have an opportunity to present the business.  Or they'll miss a training event for the same reason.   I've been able to create massive success in this industry, and I've never missed a training or team call for the sake of the opportunity to present to someone.   And I've never lost out because of it.

I've always known how important it is to stop chopping and sharpen your axe on a regular basis.  What I learn from the training ... and the value the training gives my team ... has always propelled my business further than one more presentation would have.

I'd love to hear from you on this.  Comment below with your feedback.

I think that by making and taking the time to set priorities for business trainings, allows my business to have a solid foundation for success. It provides me with the motivational fuel to keep going in spite of issues or oppositions. It allows me to stay focused with my goals and equips me with knowledge for staying within the company guidelines for operating and growing my business.

The long term success of a business to me is not how fast or competitive a person may be to attract customers for the growth of their business. It is for me having the knowledge, tools and training to be flexible and creative within company guidelines for long term sustainable growth for future years and generations. It may not be the fastest way, but to me it is the best way for a successful solid business.
