90-DAY BODY: WEEK 6 (2/14/16)

Hey Everyone,

It is time for a 6 week "check up".

It has been six weeks since the start of Zen Project 8.
Many of you started with great enthusiasm…….with the plans to FINALLY make 2016 the year you achieve your optimal health……but many are also now getting quiet 6 weeks later.

Have you fallen off the wagon ?

If so….. why? What challenges are you encountering on your journey to wellness ?

Is it ……. Cravings? Motivation?

The path to achieve great health is by no means easy ! It is filled with the daily temptations to slip back into the bad habits that got you to where you are today in the first place. 

Your senses suddenly become hypersensitive to the smell of the fast food chicken, as you drive by your favorite fast food joint. Your taste buds crave the chocolate bars and ice creams in the supermarkets…not to mention the amazing baked goods that you find in your local shopping stores as well. 

Don't worry ….I know how you feel. 

But what makes one person more likely to stay "on track" compared to another ?

​For me personally, SELF motivation is a HUGE factor. When I see things trying to derail me ….i say .."OH NO ! …NOT THIS TIME !

I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I just got to the point where I had simply had enough. As a young person who is qualified in the health care profession, I dealt first hand with the not so nice new trend, of younger and younger persons being diagnosed with diseases that we grew up knowing very elderly persons to suffer from. 

These conditions would include the Non - communicable diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, strokes, heart attacks, cancers…..just to name a few ! 

There are people as young as their 20s suffering with these conditions. 

This current upcoming generation is the first generation who will NOT outlive their parents, and in some cases even their grandparents !! 

This fact is TRAGIC ! 

​As we take a step back and look at what has caused this global trend, we see that the sedentary lifestyles and poor food choices are the major underlying causes.

Armed with this knowledge, it is therefore our duty not only to ourselves, but more importantly, the upcoming generation, to set the example and create a huge ripple effect all over the world where we will have our younger generations making smarter choices, being active and ultimately decreasing the burden of chronic diseases on our young people ! 

So I hope that this information resonates with you and touches your heart. 

I want you to see how crucial good health is. Your health should be a HUGE priority in your life, because with good health , you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your hard work so much more. Your daily energy with be good, you will be more alert and focussed, your productivity will increase, you will be able to enjoy life so much more……and most importantly …you will inspire others to change their lives also .

If you have fallen off the wagon, I want to encourage you to JUMP RIGHT BACK ON this week. Grab the guides for the zen project 8 and get started again. In order for us to help others, we must first make sure we are in the position to do so, by helping ourselves.

90-DAY BODY: Week 5

Hey Everyone !

Congrats to those of you who have stayed committed to the process and are on week 5 of the Zen Project 8 program !
Warm welcome to those of you who may be now joining the Zen experience. You will absolutely love the results you will achieve on this system !

If you are new to the Zen Project....Please visit zenproject8.com where you can find all the replays for the coaching calls with Mark McDonald and Cassiah Jay. These calls will guide you through the last few weeks prior to your start.
Also, you will want to join the Zen Project 8 and Team ELITE Zen Fitness FB groups where you will get all the guidance and motivation you need on your journey.

Be sure to download the guide for the appropriate phase of the Zen Program you will be embarking on, so you will be clear on what is require in each phase of the program. These can be found in any of the FB groups or right here on the body aspect of the site !

Here are some friendly tips for you no matter the phase you are embarking on !

For those of you who may be on the Ignite phase, but you have not quite yet reached your goal body, it is recommended to STAY on Ignite phase for the next 4 weeks instead of progressing to Thrive phase.  


If you are using the Zen Shape and Zen Fit....it works best on an EMPTY stomach....so it is BEST to take it 30 mins BEFORE your meals Eg: before your mid morning and mid afternoon snack/shake.

Don’t allow yourself to get bored with the process. Keep adding new recipes and foods as well as keep diversifying your workout routine. Maybe you can take up a new sport or find some activity that involves a lot of movement, so that it will be like you are working out without even realizing it !
Remember this is a new LIFESTYLE ! so keep things fresh !

Now let’s talk about what it means to be taking on the THRIVE phase if you are starting that now.
 This is going to be about how you live your life ! Health should be of major importance and needs just as much attention as the other priorities in your life. Remember live life BALANCED !

Thrive consists of 3 aspects: 



1) REPROGRAM : This is where you will be expected to maintain the results of your goal body for a least TWO MONTHS upon completion of the program. Yes TWO MONTHS ! That is what is takes for stabilization. So completing the 8 weeks does not mean you can re invite bad habits again . This program teaches you how to balance everything and make healthy choices for your body !

2) DIVERSIFY : The reality is , you are either in a rhythm or you’re in a rut !
It is very easy for things to throw you into a rut if you allow it Eg:traveling, work projects, illness just to name a few. So staying focussed is super crucial !
Again ...you much focus on diversifying your food so you don’t get bored . If you find yourself eating the same thing over and over which is likely to make you bored, and if you feel bored with your workouts....that is a big RED FLAG and you’re probably in trouble ! So keep finding new workouts and new recipes so you maintain your rhythm !!

3)ENERGIZE : This is where you start to take your program beyond yourself ! What does that mean? ...Well this is where you keep yourself accountable and engaged in the lifelong process by getting your family, community etc on board ! Start walking groups where you can meet new people and engage and inspire others. People in the group can be responsible for bringing a new recipe every walking session ....so that is a super fun way to keep your food ideas rolling in !

During THRIVE, you are allowed ONE off plan meal per week. To clarify ....this means that if you plan to have an off plan dinner, you will eat ON PLAN for the whole day until dinner time where you can let loose and eat whatever your heart desires. You however get RIGHT BACK on plan immediately with the very NEXT meal.
Note ....we did not say cheat week ....or cheat day....
It is only ONE OFF PLAN MEAL ONCE weekly .

Stay plugged into our communities, and most importantly Join Cassiah and Mark every Monday at 9 pm EST for a coaching call !
Next week they will be tackling how to master your Sleep ! Yes ! Sleep or lack there of, can affect your results ! So that will be an episode not to miss !!

Have a rocking week . Eat Clean ! Train Dirty ! Stay focussed and let’s make big things happen !

Hey Everyone .....congrats on your journey so far, and welcome to those of you who may now be starting your Zen Project 8 journey with us.

If you are now getting started be sure to download the guides here from the site and familiarize yourself with the phase you are doing.
Be sure to plug in to Zen Project 8 and Team ELITE Zen Fitness FB page, where there are always updates, recipe shares, motivation and guidance on your life long journey to a healthier, stronger version of you !

No matter the Phase you are on ....remember this process is NOT a sprint .....but it is a MARATHON !

Also, I’de like to remind everyone to tune in every Monday night at 9 PM EST to the Zen project 8 coaching call with Mark McDonald and Cassiah Jay ! These google hangouts are extremely high value, and teach you information that will set you up to win for a life time, as it relates to your wellness journey.

This week, I want to summarize the answers to common concerns many people on the zen project express. This will help you have the quick fun facts from coaching at your finger tips, when you are in doubt !

So here I go !

Q: How can I get my spouse, kids, friends etc to be motivated and a part of my Zen Project journey ?

A: You be the beacon of light ! Keep setting the example by cooking healthy enjoyable food, exercising and getting results, and when they see not only your physical transformation, but your enhanced mood and energy ......trust me.....they will WANT to jump on board with what you are doing . Always remember.....be the inspiration !

Q: If I skip a meal, should I eat double the food at the next eating time ?

A: Absolutely not ! If for whatever reason you end up skipping a meal, simply eat an appropriate PFC portion as soon as you are able to eat, and then eat 3 hrs after as usual. This problem should be reduced if you follow the guidelines from week 3 coaching on how to be prepared with your mobile ready food kit for your ‘on the go‘ days.

Q:What if I am having craving ?

A: Craving could mean different things. It could mean you are underfeeding your body, or your blood sugar could be lower than it should be. To avoid this ....FEED THE MACHINE ! Remember this is not a starvation low calorie diet. This is about healthy balanced portions to keep your body fueled all day !

Q: Does proper sleep impact my results ?

A: It sure does. Getting a restful night is super important. Poor sleep decreases the body’s fat burning potential . So HONOR YOUR SLEEP!

Q: Is water important ?

A: Yes ! Water is very important. Remember you are made up of 60 - 70 % water. The more water you drink the LESS you retain ! Yes...it is the opposite to what you thought. Drink lots of water every day no matter the phase you are in. 2 - 3 L for women and 3 - 4 L for men. Proper hydration maximizes results !

So there you have it....this week’s main Questions and the answers to help !

Now, as it relates to your exercise, remember to customize this program for yourself. This program is all for you. If you have no previous exercise routine, start easy eg: 15 to 20 mins walk 3 times per week and graduate yourself as your body allow. Remember to keep challenging your body ! This will help to prevent hitting annoying plateaus !

If you are already a fitness fan......then GO HARD OR GO HOME !
 You should be prepared to do at least 2 days of strength training, 2 days of High Intensity Interval Training and 2 days of combination ! Remember to ALWAYS do fat burning cardio eg: biking , treadmill AFTER your strength training or High Intensity Interval training, as this will maximize your fat burning !
Always increase your activity strategically.

Remember ......Keep eating your PFCs (proteins, carbs and fat ) in 3s. ie : every 3 hrs.
It is all about Eating clean ....but training dirty !

90-Day Body: Week 3

It is now WEEK 3 of Zen Project 8!
​
Some of you may be now starting your detox, some of you may be starting your Ignite phase and some of you may be on week 2 of Ignite.

Which ever stage of Zen Project 8 you are tackling this week , be sure to follow the respective Guide for the stage, so that you make sure you consume the right foods based on the stage you are at.

Here are some friendly tips to ensure you get through your week right! 


1) Be sure to drink lots of water.

2) Pre-plan your meals so you reduce the risk of buying the wrong foods when out and about on the go !

3) If you are on Ignite......keep a protein bar to hand, especially when you are on the go ! We would rather you have a protein bar than skip a meal !! Remember PFC (protein / carb/fat ) every 3 hrs !
If you mess up on a meal or skip a meal, don’t sweat about it.....just get back on track RIGHT AWAY and keep moving forward !

3) Take you Zen shape capsule approximately 30 mins before your mid morning and mid afternoon shake / snack.

4) You are allowed to use Zen Fit for Ignite phase if you so desire. If you plan to start using it .....this should be taken with your Zen Shape capsules approximately 30 mins prior to your mid morning and mid afternoon shake / snack.

5) Zen Project 8 is not a starvation diet. If you are hungry before your 3 hr eating time ........just EAT ! :) .....and then eat again 3 hrs after !


6) On Ignite ....you will notice there are 2 days where you have to do DOUBLE TIME ! Yes ! 60 mins of work out - The strength /cardio combination.
Be sure to do your strength training FIRST ! followed by your cardio. This arrangement makes you burn fat better!

Please don’t be overwhelmed by the workout calendar.
This program is for YOU! If you are coming from doing no exercise before this program....start small and work your way up . Remember to improve a little every day and week.
Eg: Do 15 - 20 mins of exercise 3 days a week.

The following week start to do 20 - 30 mins, 3 times a week and gradually increase the number of days and your workout time as you progress and your body allows.

90-Day Body: Strength Training

It's time for a talk about Strength Training ! 

As we begin Ignite phase……we will be expected to incorporate Strength training into our workout regimen. 

Many of you may be wandering what really IS strength training and how will it be of benefit to  you ! 

Strength training is one of the MOST effective ways to help your body burn fat and build lean muscle. 
It is the use of resistance to induce a muscular contraction that will help to build strength, as well as the size of the skeletal muscle. 

So now that you have that part covered, let's dive into a couple of important reasons you should be doing your strength training.

  1. It helps to increase your muscle tone, thus helping to make you feel more confident in the way you look and feel! 
  2. It has a great 'after burn' effect . What do I mean by that? …….basically your body has to use a lot of energy AFTER your workout to return your body to its normal state, and that helps to boost your metabolism long after you have finished your workout ! Who wouldn't want THAT cool benefit?
  3. It helps to increase your resting metabolic rate which is the amount of energy that your body uses in a rested/ relaxed state.You are probably wandering how on earth is THAT possible ! Well…….that is because your body burns more calories trying to maintain lean muscle mass, than is does trying to maintain fat ! Ie:The more lean muscle you have ….the more calories your body burns just maintaining itself ! It's like your body thinks it is working out even when it isn't . How cool is THAT ! 
  4. Strength training helps to prevent diseases such as those related to blood pressure, cholesterol , glucose regulation …..just to name a few!
  5. Strength training helps to decrease muscle waisting in older folks which helps them to be more independent and live a longer more active life !


So now that you have a better idea of the benefits of strength training, be sure to do it TWICE a week as scheduled on your Ignite workout calendar !

If you are not sure what exercises will help you achieve this type of training….check out this great link that shows you videos on common exercises, and how to do them safely using your own body weight, or very basic workout equipment you may already have at home or can buy for reasonable prices !

You made it through detox week ! Awesome job! Your body is now primed to be the ultimate fat burning machine during Ignite !

Here is how to put yourself in position to win as we enter INGITE PHASE this week.

  1. Download your IGNITE manual.  CLICK HERE

90-Day Body: Week 1

THE NEXT 90-DAYS ARE ABOUT TAKING OUR BODIES TO ANOTHER LEVEL OF HEALTH & FITNESS.  

... and it starts with Detox.  The Detox phase is where you will be cutting the bloat , cleaning out the digestive system and priming your body to be a highly efficient fat burning machine !
GET OFF TO A GREAT START BY TAKING THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

  1. Download the Phase 1 Detox Guide
  2. Join Team ELITE Zen Fitness FB group and Zen Project 8 FB group
  3. Document your Before and After photos and take your starting measurement and carefully document.
  4. Review the foods to avoid and the foods to use and make your shopping list so you can stock up on the right foods!
  5. Remove ' foods to avoid' from your fridge and pantry to reduce the chances of self sabotage during detox.
  6. Sit down, plan and prepare your meals so that your meals will be ready for a few days at a time, and you will reduce your chances of eating the wrong foods when out.
  7. Remember to walk with a water bottle so that you can keep up with the required daily quantities, and reduce chances of drinking unhealthy drinks or eating unhealthy snacks.
